Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the 15 Economic Policy Packages issued since 2015 have resulted in the increasing international confidence in Indonesias economic resilience.
"Through the 15 Economic Policy Packages, the government has streamlined regulations and long bureaucratic tapes that have been shackling the Indonesian economy," said President Jokowi at his State Address on the occasion of the 72nd Independence Anniversary in front of the Joint Session of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) and the House of Representatives (DPR) at the Parliament Building in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to the President, in the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) ranking, Indonesias position increased from 106th rank in 2016 to 91th in 2017.
Similarly, Indonesia has also obtained an investment grade rating of three credible international rating agencies, Standard and Poors Global Ratings, Fitch Ratings, and Moodys.
Even, the Head of State continued, in a business survey by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Indonesias position rose to the 4th place as a prospective investment destination country.
In addition to international trust, the President also highlighted the importance of improving the nations competitiveness.
"We will become a developed nation that is reckoned by other nations in the world if we have competitiveness. One of the crushers of our competitiveness is corruption, it is our common enemy," he said.
In addition to combating corruption that undermines the state budget and the peoples money, it (the government) also continues to strengthen the national taxation system and database.
As to its competitiveness in the future, (Indonesia) must anticipate fast changes in the world where everything is digitalized.
"We continue to improve national efficiency and competitiveness with digital breakthroughs in bureaucratic work, public services, the development of small businesses (SMEs), the way the national economy works and the delivery of social assistance and non-cash subsidies," he said.
