KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia Indonesia has redeveloped the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Aquatic Centre in downtown Senayan into a world class aquatic centre, as they prepare to host the 18th Asian Games from Aug 18 to Sept 2, 2018.
The new aquatic centre launched by Indonesian Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla on Tuesday is another milestone of The Road to the Asian Games 2018 campaign, said a statement from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
The complex featuring a main Olympic-sized swimming pool, water polo pool and diving pool, and a training pool, will be one of the focal points when the republic hosts the Asian Games in two cites, Jakarta and Palembang, With China, Japan and Korea joining the emerging Southeast Asian nations in water sports such as Malaysia and Singapore, the swimming and diving events at the aquatic centre will see spectacular action, said the statement.
Muhammad Jusuf also witnessed the sponsorship agreement signing between the Indonesian Asian Games Organising Committee (INASGOC) chairman Erick Thohir, who is also the Indonesian Olympic Committee president, with nine companies.
The nine companies are: PT. Amerta Indah Otsuka, which will provide the sports drink Pocari Sweat and energy bar Soyjoy, Ssangyong Information and Communications Corp., Grab Indonesia, Astra International, Indofood, AQUA, Samsung Indonesia, Sinarmas and Alfamart.
