US drug convict escapes from Bali jail

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - Drug convict Christian Beasley, 32, a US citizen, escaped from the Kerobokan prison in Badung District, Bali Province, Monday.

Beasleys disappearance came to light at around 4 a.m. local time on Monday, Tonny Nainggolan, head of the Kerobokan jail, noted.

Nainggolan suspects that Beasley escaped by scaling the eastern wall of the prison.

Beasleys case is being tried in the Denpasar District Court. His last trial was held on Dec 4 to listen to a testimony by a customs and excise officer.

Beasley was arrested on August 1, 2017, after receiving a postal package from Canada containing hashish weighing 5.71 grams.

Beasley was arrested by the Bali anti-narcotic office and the local customs and excise office.
