MALAYSIA: 31 INDONESIAN TOURISTS ESCAPE UNHURT AFTER BUS CATCHES FIRE ALONG NORTH-SOUTH EXPRESSWAY

JOHOR BAHRU, Johor state, A total of 31 Indonesian tourists escaped unhurt when the bus they were traveling in caught fire at Km 99, North-South Expressway (PLUS) southbound yesterday morning.

Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Station operation commander Fire Superintendent Nazari Keling said in the 11 am incident, the bus driver also escaped uninjured.

He said further investigation would be carried out to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a senior citizen sustained hip injuries after she leaped from the second floor of a bungalow when the house caught fire in Kampung Wadihana, here Wednesday night.

Johor Bahru Fire and Rescue station operations commander Senior Fire Superintendent II Mohd Haizrul Rahmad said the 61-year-old woman was among the 20 tenants in the house, and others escaped unhurt.

The house was totally destroyed in the 11.05 pm incident when the fire spread rapidly as the house had been renovated to 13 rental rooms complete with a cooking space in each one of them, he said.
