President calls for safe transportation during holidays

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in a cabinet meeting on Monday, called for safe and comfortable public transportation during Christmas and New Years holidays.

"I want more attention to transportation services," he said at a closed door meeting on preparation for Christmas and New Year festivals.

The head of state noted that the government should ensure that the public could have an access to adequate transportation services during the long holiday.

"The year-end holiday has coincided with school holiday; thus, it would need much better services for transportation," he added in the meeting, also attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

Jokowi has also called on the authority to prioritize public transportation safety.

On the issue of supply of basic necessities and food price stability, Jokowi remarked that the government has anticipated severe weather and natural disasters in some regions that might interrupt food supply.

"We have done this regularly, but once again, we have to anticipate this, considering the current extreme weather and disasters in some regions. Thus, we have to pay serious attention to food supply and its price stability," he pointed out, adding that smooth distribution of food and fuel are crucial.

The president called on the Indonesian Police and military to anticipate any security disruption and increase security in public places, worship houses, airports, ports, railway stations, and bus stations.

"The public should also be involved in maintaining security and order in their neighborhoods," Jokowi revealed.
