President calls for increased competitions, training to meet asian games

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Joko Widodo has called for increased competitions and training for players to meet various regional events including Asian Games 2018.

"Competitions must be increased as well as training," he said here on Sunday after attending a friendly football match between Indonesias national team and Iceland.

He said the more competitions are held the better would be both for senior as well as junior athletes.

He said from the match that ended 4-1 for the guest areas needed improvement would be known.

"From this (match) we know what need to be improved for meeting regional events such as for example Asian Games," he said.

President Joko Widodo said that condition of the Gelora Bung Karno main stadium has now been good.

"Just now we could see how it is when it is dry and wet because of rain. It is already very good," he said about the stadium that has just been renovated.

He said the Iceland teams coach has said that the GBK stadium is very big and good.

"This evening was a warming up game for our national team before playing in regional events," he said.

Commenting on the match President Joko Widodo said that the national team won in the beginning.

"We won in the behinning. Well, in short we must overcome the shortcomings and improve what has been good," he said.
