People called on to maintain interfaith harmony

Sleman :House Speaker Bambang Soesatyo appealed to the people to maintain interfaith harmony and not to be provoked by the attack on Church of Santa Lidwina in Bedhog, Gamping, Sleman District, Yogyakarta, on Sunday.

"We urge and hope that the people of religious community will not be incited by this incident. We need to keep prioritizing what we have done in life and keep the harmony of religious people which today has been very good," said Bambang Soesatyo after reviewing the church with Commander of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto in Sleman on Sunday.

He hopes events or attempts by certain parties to pit religious adherents would not happen again.

The House of Representatives (DPR) encourages and supports the decisive steps taken by the Police assisted by the TNI to investigate the case thoroughly.

Bambang also asked the chief of the National Polices Criminal Investigation Department (Kabareskrim) to immediately investigate the case and apply prevention so that the incident will not happen again.

"I ask Kabareskrim to investigate this incident, lest there be any attacks in other houses of worship," said Bambang.

The House of Representatives also strongly condemned any action that could potentially disrupt the well-maintained religious harmony.

The House, Police and TNI have asserted that they will continue to fight things that disrupt the unity of Indonesia.

"The TNI Commander and his staff, the Police and his staff, and our House of Representatives will declare war on efforts that could damage the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)," he said.
