Kuningan, W Java (ANTARA News) - Landslides have forced over 3,500 people in four villages in the Karangkencana and Ciniru sub-districts, Kuningan District, West Java Province, to evacuate to safer areas.
"The number of evacuees due to the landslides reaches more than two thousand people," Agus Mauludin, acting head of the Kuningan disaster mitigation office, stated here, Monday.
The evacuees were accommodated at the city hall, their relatives homes, or emergency tents, he revealed.
A total of 987 people were displaced in Margacina Village. In Jabranti, the natural disaster forced 1,333 people to evacuate to safer places.
Some 1,500 villagers in Pinara and 101 people in Mungkaldacar were also displaced by the landslides.
The landslides were triggered by incessant torrential rains lashing for several days.
In Brebes District, Central Java Province, a landslide killed 11 people, rendered seven people missing, and injured four others on last Thursday (Feb 22).
Social Affairs Minister Idrus Marham on Monday visited Pasir Panjang Village, Salem Sub-district, Brebes District, to see the victims of the landslide.
He will check the logistics stock for a public kitchen set up to feed landslide victims.
The minister will also distribute free rice and social allowances to needy families and offer assistance to the relatives of those killed in the natural disaster.
