LIMA, The Peruvian government has extended its deepest condolences and solidarity to the Government and people of Indonesia for the human losses caused by an earthquake and tsunami which hit the island of Sulawesi on Friday.
"The Government of Peru wishes for a speedy recovery of the victims after this unfortunate natural catastrophe," reads a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here Sunday.
So far, more than 800 people have been confirmed killed after a quake and subsequent tsunami which struck Central Sulawesi, where hospitals are not able to cope with the flood of casualties.
Officials fear that the death toll could rise sharply in the following days when damage in isolated areas is identified.
