Jakarta (ANTARA News) - The Health Affairs Ministry has sent a lot of water purification tablets for medical purposes in the quake affected areas in the Central Sulawesi provincial city of Palu, a minister said.
"We will send water purifiers from Makassar," Health Minister Nila Moeloek said at the Ministry of Health office here on Monday, adding that the clean water is needed for medical treatment.
In addition, Nila revealed that the hospital needed electricity to be able to carry out surgery.
"The operation needs electricity, and the generator has no fuel. The hospital has a generator, but there is no fuel," the minister remarked.
Nila stressed that health workers will find it difficult to take action as long as the operating room is not optimal.
She further said, now the medicines are still enough, but more stocks are needed in the following days.
According to her, medical personnel have been deployed by the Ministry of Health since Saturday (Sept 29) at the disaster site in Palu.
Nila also said the Ministry of Health was trying to send Antitetanus Serum (ATS) in collaboration with PT Bio Farma for the treatment of tetanus.
Injuries constantly open to victims are feared to become infected with bacteria and cause tetanus, she added.
The 7.4-magnitude earthquake hit Donggala District, around 73 kilometers from Palu, Central Sulawesi Province at 5:02 p.m. Jakarta time.
