The clean-ups are indicative of a growing awareness and willingness to act on garbage issues throughout Indonesia, especially in West Jakarta.

Today, Sunday (3/10), hundreds of citizens living in RW 09, 10, 11, and 12, Cengkareng Timur, West Jakarta look compact cleaning mud in the drainages and garbage in the environment, as well as cut grass and twigs.
"We are focused on dredging mud to smoothen water flow, considering it's still the rainy season," expressed a citizen of RT 15/RW 12, Karjo (57).
It also aims to prevent breeding of dengue mosquitoes.
Similar action is also seen in RW 09 area. Locals are seen cleaning the drainages in the settlements whose average width was 30-40 centimeters.
"Besides creating a clean environment, this is also aimed to strengthen silaturahmi (good relationship) between citizens," told a citizen of RT 06/09, Ade Cahyadi (47).
