Makassar, S Sulawesi (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Rector Forum (FRI) has released a statement in which it called on election executors to maintain neutrality and demonstrate highest levels of commitment to work.
The General Election Commission (KPU), in charge of executing the elections, will take a decision on those emerging victorious in the presidential and legislative elections on the basis of vote counting, FRI Chairperson Prof. Dr Dwi Aries Tina Palubuhu MA remarked here, Monday.
"Hence, we appeal to those tasked with executing the 2019 Elections, specifically the KPU, Election Supervisory Board (Bawaslu), and the Honorary Council of Election Executors (DKPP), to remain self-reliant and neutral along with guaranteeing that the vote counting process is held in line with the existent regulations," she noted.
The FRI also appealed to the public to always give the highest priority to the nation's interests over and above those of particular groups or persons.
The rectors also sought professionalism from the police and military in their work along with maintaining a neutral stance and putting the nation's interest above all.
They also called on presidential candidates and political parties to exercise patience as they await outcomes of the vote counting by the KPU.
The rectors requested the candidates to recall their commitments to graciously welcome the outcome of the election regardless of them winning or losing. The FRI also appealed to their supporters to exercise self-restraint.
The rectors emphasized that the media too must furnish information that is balanced, accountable, and helpful.
The FRI has appealed to its members to assist in securing the election process to ascertain fair, honest, orderly, and peaceful ballot counting in their respective regions.
