US ambassador offers condolences on the passing of Ani Yudhoyono

Jakarta (ANTARA) - US Ambassador to Indonesia Joseph R. Donovan Jr. offered condolences over the passing of former Indonesia's First Lady Ani Yudhoyono.

The wife of the sixth Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono passed away at National University Hospital, Singapore, on Saturday at 11.50 local time after struggling to fight blood cancer in the past four months.

"On behalf of the American people and the United States Government, I offer our deepest condolences ?on the passing of former First Lady Ani Yudhoyono," Donovan said on his statement, Saturday.

According to Donovan, Mrs. Yudhoyono was a tireless advocate for the well-being of Indonesians as well as a friend of the United States.

"We mourn her loss and cherish her legacy alongside her family, friends, and the people of Indonesia," he continued.

Ani Yudhoyono's body will be brought home to Puri Cikeas, West Java, on Saturday evening.

She will be buried with a military ceremony at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, South Jakarta, on Sunday (June 2) afternoon.

The passing of Ani Yudhoyono brought deep sorrow to her husband, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono; two sons, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono; and two daughter-in-laws, Annisa Pohan and Aliya Rajasa.

Ani Yudhoyono also left four grandchildren, namely Almira Tunggadewi Yudhoyono, Airlangga Satriadhi Yudhoyono, Pancasakti Maharajasa Yudhoyono, and Gayatri Idalia Yudhoyono.
