Indonesia denounces terrorist attack in Cairo

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Government of Indonesia has vociferously expressed its condemnation to the heinous terrorist attack in Cairo on August 4, 2019, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries.

The statement was published on the official page of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Twitter account monitored by Antara in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The government and people of Indonesia express deep sorrow and sympathy to the victims and their families.

The foreign affairs ministry confirmed that no Indonesian citizens had, so far, reportedly fallen victim to the attack.

Earlier, 17 people were killed and 32 others injured in an explosion in front of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute in downtown Cairo, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Health on Monday (August 5).

A car that ran against the flow of traffic in Cairo rammed into three other cars and caused an explosion, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian Interior Ministry. Egyptian public prosecutors investigated the blast case, as reported by Reuters.

Furthermore, the Egyptian interior ministry announced on Monday that the car involved in an explosion in central Cairo contained explosives and was intended for use in a terrorist operation.
