West Kalimantan Police currently processing 66 cases of forest fires

A total of 15 of those 66 land and forest fire cases were corporations or companies

Pontianak, W Kalimantan (ANTARA) - West Kalimantan Provincial Police Chief Inspector General Didi Haryono confirmed that the police were presently working to process 66 suspects in 66 land and forest fire cases across the region.

"A total of 15 of those 66 land and forest fire cases were corporations or companies," Haryono stated in Pontianak on Tuesday.

Of them, 13 cases involving companies are under investigation, while the building of their companies in Ketapang, Kubu Raya, Sambas, Sintang, and Mempawah had been closed.

The police claimed to have been conducting investigation into cases in various stages that involved individuals.

"We had already sent the files of 25 cases that are in the stage 1 of investigation to the attorney. Thus, we are currently awaiting the attorney office to pass on the information of whether the files are completed," Haryono revealed.

The West Kalimantan Provincial Police have deployed thousands of joint personnel to conduct patrolling encompassing the areas to take preventive acts and conduct firefighting.

"Some 100 villages are being specified as land- and forest fire-prone areas," Haryono noted.

Haryono also appealed to those residing around the areas to gain awareness of ways to tackle the haze caused by massive fire.

"We will certainly take firm action against those negligent or deliberately setting land and forest on fire," he emphasized.
