Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian junior high school students emerged as the overall champions of the International Teenagers Mathematics Olympiad (ITMO) 2019 held in Lucknow, India, from October 13 to 17.
The Indonesian students bagged 19 medals comprising nine gold, nine silver and one bronze, and five trophies comprising trophies for one contender, two champions, two first runners-up and one second runner-up, the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi said in a press statement released on Tuesday.
ITMO is a biennial competition being organized by the IMC Committee Board since 2015. The competition consists of the key stage II for elementary school students, and the key stage III for junior high school students. During each stage, participants are required to participate in the individual competition and the team competition.
The Indonesian students emerged as the overall champions of the ITMO 2019 after beating their contenders from Bangladesh, Bulgaria, Finland, the Philippines, India, Malaysia, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Nepal, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates and Tajikistan.

Education and Culture Attache of the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi, Lestyani Yunarsih, said the success of the Indonesian team will positively impact the Indonesian image in the eyes of the Indian community.
