Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo left for Bangkok on Saturday to attend the 35th ASEAN Summit where he will highlight the concept of Indo-Pacific cooperation and its importance. "The emphasis (of the concept) is how to increase connectivity in the Indo-Pacific region," Minister/State Secretary Pratikno said at Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase in Jakarta Saturday.

The integrity of the connectivity may encourage trade which will eventually spur economic growth in the region, according to Pratikno.

"So, how the Indo-Pacific will become an economic force starts from strong connectivity which will lay the basis for trade and economy to become stronger," he said.

President Widodo and First Lady Iriana along with a limited entourage left for Thailand to attend the Summit that begins on November 2 and concludes on November 4.

The Summit has the theme of "Promoting Partnership for Sustainability" to ensure a partnership between ASEAN member states and other countries for sustainable growth in the region.

While in Thailand, President Widodo is scheduled to attend a series of meetings including the 22nd ASEAN-China Summit, 16th ASEAN-India Summit, 10th ASEAN-United Nations Summit, 7th ASEAN-the United States Summit, ASEAN Plus Three Leaders Meeting with the East Asian Business Council 22nd ASEAN Plus Three Summit, 14th East Asia Summit, 22nd ASEAN-Japan Summit, and the 3rd Regional Economic Comprehensive Partnership.
