Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Police Chief General Idham Aziz confirmed the arrests of 74 terror suspects after a suicide bombing targeted the Medan Police Headquarters in North Sumatra on Nov 13, 2019.
"In investigating the suicidal bombing case at the Medan Police Office, the identity of the bomber was revealed within eight days after the incident, and the police also managed to arrest 74 terror suspects in 10 regions," Aziz remarked during a hearing with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) here on Wednesday.
Of the 74 suspects, 30 were detained in North Sumatra; 11 in West Java; five in Pekanbaru, Riau Province; five in Banten Province; four in East Kalimantan; three in Jakarta; two each in Aceh and East Java; and one in South Sulawesi.
The Police's Counterterrorism Squad, Densus 88, kept moving to arrest some more terror suspects, he revealed.
"Based on the cases of attack against (retired) General Wiranto and the Medan bombing, the perpetrators are members of the JAD group," he remarked.
The perpetrators of the two crimes belonged to the same group Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) and were indoctrinated into terrorism through social media.
They targeted the government and police personnel, who were perceived as "thaghut," or those against the rules of Allah, by them.
The hearing was chaired by Commission III Chairman Herman Herry, while the National Police chief was accompanied by Deputy Police Chief Commissioner General Ari Dono Sukmonto, National Police spokesman Inspector General Muhammad Iqbal, and 34 provincial police chiefs, among others.
In the meantime, the Densus 88 squad personnel shot dead two suspected terrorists during a raid at the Kota Datar area, Hamparan Perak Sub-district, Deli Serdang District, on November 16, North Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Agus Andrianto stated.
The two suspects were gunned down when they attacked the Densus 88 and local police personnel to skirt arrest, he noted.
