Investment helps curtail intellectual unemployment: BKPM head

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Investment plays a crucial role in lowering intellectual unemployment, as it can create jobs, Bahlil Lahadalia, Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) head, stated.

"Although you have not graduated, you can yet set up your business to become entrepreneurs. The permit is now simplified, all at the BKPM. This is important in order to reduce unemployment. Ensure that good graduates do not become unemployed intellectuals," he noted in a statement here on Saturday.

Lahadalia delivered a scientific speech while addressing 1,991 graduates during the 70th anniversary of the University of Indonesia (UI) and the Professional, Specialist, Masters and Doctoral Graduation Program at the University Hall, Depok, West Java.

In line with Presidential Instruction Number 7 of 2019 on the Acceleration of Ease of Business in February 2020, representatives of 25 ministries and institutions in the BKPM will provide investment permits to entrepreneurs.

Thus, it will annul the need for entrepreneurs to approach relevant ministries and institutions to obtain permits.

Congratulating the graduates, the BKPM head stated that UI graduates play a noteworthy role in boosting the nation's competitiveness.

Most of the government's high-ranking officials in charge of economic affairs were UI graduates, including Sri Mulyani, Chatib Basri, and Mahendra, he stated.

In the meantime, Prof. Ari Kuncoro, the UI rector, who led the graduation ceremony, admitted to the force of technological disruption having changed the order of life.

However, technological disruption must be utilized in academic activities, including in universities.

The use of information technology and Artificial Intelligence have been incorporated into educational programs at the UI, such as the use of UI e-learning programs, online learning programs, and research publications not only for UI students but also the public.

Technology offers advantages for academicians to innovate, improve the quality of scientific work, and work creatively and innovatively.
