Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has appealed to related ministries to divert attention to building a powerful basketball national squad for the 2023 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup.
"I have called (related institutions) to prepare a powerful national team, with a tough mentality, for the FIBA Basketball World Cup in 2023," Jokowi stated during a meeting on preparations ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 here on Tuesday.
The president has also called to establish an Organizing Committee for the international sport event. "Establish the OC (Organizing Committee) soon to prepare a comprehensive schedule for the event," he noted.
The FIBA World Cup 2023 will be cohosted by Indonesia, Japan, and the Philippines, marking the pioneering time the championship event sees multiple hosts.
All planning, encompassing budget, pre-event activates, security, and health services, should be well-prepared, he stated.
He noted that the event is expected to help Indonesia promote its tourism potential.
"The venue for the event should be prepared in accordance with the FIBA standard," the president remarked, adding that it would include changing rooms, area for hospitality, internet connectivity, and other services.
"The international community has demonstrated its trust in our country, so we should utilize this opportunity," he stated.
Jokowi pointed to several things that should be prepared soon, though the event is three years away.
"It is important for us to prepare the regulation as a basis for organizing the basketball championship in 2023, including the budget allocation and the hosting fee that must be fulfilled," the president emphasized.
