I would like that the impact of this plunge on our economy, especially towards fuel, both subsidized and non-subsidized ones, be calculated
Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo has demanded to compute the impact of the plummeting global gas prices, sliding to 30 US dollars per barrel, on Indonesia's economy.
The president made the statement during a limited meeting on the Adjustment of Gas Prices for Industry and Non-Subsidized Fuel at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, Wednesday.
"We are aware of the fact that the global gas prices have plunged to approximately 30 US dollars per barrel. Hence, I would like that the impact of this plunge on our economy, especially towards fuel, both subsidized and non-subsidized ones, be calculated," the president stated.
He also called on related ministers to estimate the extent of time the low prices of gas would remain, and the prices in future.
"We must respond to policies, with the right policies of our own, and we also have to capitalize on the momentum and opportunities presented by the decline of oil prices on our economy," he expounded.
The limited meeting on the Adjustment of Gas Prices for Industry and Non-Subsidized Fuel at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, was led by the president and held through a videoconference with related ministers.
The videoconference meeting was held as a social distancing effort after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Presidential spokesman, Fadjroel Rachman, stated that the meeting held via videoconference is still an effective measure to be applied in running the government.
