4,634 caught violating health protocols in Central Jakarta

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has sanctioned 4,634 people for violating health protocols since the re-imposition of the large-scale social restrictions (PSBB) policy on September 14, 2020.

"By September 23, 2020 at 12 (p.m.), after the PSBB took effect on September 14, we have nabbed 4,634 violators of health protocols. Most of them were nabbed without masks,” Chief of the Central Jakarta Public Order Agency Bernard Tambunan said here on Wednesday.

During the crackdown on violators, named Operasi Yutisi, Satpol PP collected more than Rp30 million in fines, he informed.

"We have fined 220 violators. The total fines we have collected have reached Rp35.85 million," he said.

Most of the violators were sanctioned with social work, with nearly 95 percent tasked with cleaning public facilities.

"The number of those sanctioned with social work is 4,414," Tambunan said.

The sanctions are expected to make the residents of Central Jakarta more aware of following the rule on wearing masks to contain the spread of COVID-19, he added.

The Jakarta administration has decided to re-impose PSBB in response to a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the past few weeks.
