Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) joined the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2020, held virtually via videoconferencing, from the Bogor Presidential Palace on Friday night.
Hosted by Malaysia, the summit this year has been organized with the theme ‘Optimising Human Potential Towards a Resilient Future of Shared Prosperity: Pivot. Prioritise. Progress’, the Presidential Secretariat's Press Bureau said in a statement released on Friday.
The theme reflects hope for resilience, agility, and inclusive economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region through the concept of shared prosperity during the COVID-19 pandemic, it said.
At the summit, Indonesia will reiterate the significance of knitting strategic trust to lay a strong foundation for the creation of economic togetherness among APEC members, as well as to explain necessary steps taken to help the global economy recover from the pandemic.
At the summit, APEC leaders are expected to agree on the post-2020 APEC vision, which will decide the direction of APEC's works for the next 20 years.
The vision will take forward Bogor Goals 1994, which have served as APEC's cooperation framework for the past 26 years. The framework was agreed upon when Indonesia hosted the APEC Summit in 1994.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, Trade Minister Agus Suparmanto, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and director general of Asia-Pacific and Africa at the Foreign Ministry, Abdul Kadir Jaelani, are joining President Widodo at the summit this year. (INE)
