Malang, E Java Police in Malang, East Java, raided a city warehouse and seized over two million Trihexyphenidyl HCl (double L) pills and arrested two suspects, identified by their initials as AAS, 32, and a woman DTR, 26.
"We seized 2,492,000 pills, such a huge quantity. It is an achievement for the Sukun District Police that had investigated the case that lead to the finding at the warehouse," Malang Police Chief Senior Commissioner Leonardus Simarmata stated here on Tuesday.
The raid was conducted following the arrest of DTR, a resident of Sukun Sub-district, Malang, during which the police also seized two thousand double L pills.
DTR came clean about the drugs being obtained from AAS also residing in the same sub-district.
The police thereafter arrested AAS in Tirtomoyo Villaga, Pakis Sub-district, Malang, and confiscated 75 bottles and 117 plastic bags filled with 192 thousand double L pills.
"The raid on the warehouse was based on the information received from AAS," he stated.
At the warehouse located on Tenis Meja Street, Lowokwaru Sub-district, Malang, the police found 23 thousand packages, with each containing 100 thousand pills.
On the basis of initial investigation, the pills, claimed to be medicines, were sent from Jakarta aboard a train.
"They said that the packages were medicines without providing details on it. They obtained the pills from another suspect M, who is still at large. We are investigating the case further," he remarked.
The two suspects admitted to having conducted the drug transaction for seven months and having received Rp700 thousand for each delivery, transferred by M.
The suspects were charged for violation of article 197 or 196 of Law No. 36 of 2009 on health that carries a maximum jail term of 15 years.
Double L is not a narcotics but a sedative drug used as medication in treating Parkinson’s disease. However, it has often been used illicitly owing to its low price.
