Ministry submits halal certificate for Sinovac vaccine to Bio Farma

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Religious Affairs Ministry submitted a halal certificate for the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, issued by the ministry's Halal Product Guarantee Agency (BPJPH), to state-owned pharmaceutical company PT Bio Farma (Persero).

"As it has been through the halal certification stages and is supported by a clinical trial process conducted by the BPOM, we can rest be assured that the Sinovac vaccine is halal, clean, and at the same time 'thayyib,' or safe to use," Deputy Religious Affairs Minister Zainut Tauhid Sa'adi remarked while handing over the halal certificate here on Wednesday.

The halal certificate, issued by BPJPH on January 12, 2020, was received by President Director of PT Bio Farma Honesty Basyir.

The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) has issued a Halal decree for the Sinovac vaccine. The Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) has also issued Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), or an emergency use permit, for the vaccine. Furthermore, the deputy minister urged Indonesians and all religious communities to not hesitate to participate in the vaccination program to be conducted by the government to protect all people from the COVID-19 infection.

"I invite all Indonesian people, all religious people, to fully and without harboring doubts, partake in the vaccinations that will soon be conducted by the government, with the aim of protecting one another because all religions teach this. I am ready to be vaccinated. Let us participate in the vaccinations," he noted.

On the occasion, Sa'adi also lauded and thanked the MUI that had issued a fatwa determining that the Sinovac vaccine is halal. (INE)
