Sriwijaya crash: Jasa Raharja compensates families of four victims

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned insurer PT Jasa Raharja has disbursed compensation to the families of four passengers of the Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182, which crashed into sea shortly after take-off on January 9, 2021. If, on Wednesday evening, the team announces the names of more identified passengers at a press conference at the Kramat Jati Police Hospital in East Jakarta, Jasa Raharja officers will begin contacting their relatives or heirs, Sampetoding said.

The total compensation released to the families of the four identified victims is Rp200 million, he informed.

"Based on the Finance Ministry's rules, the amount of compensation for each passenger killed in a public mode accident is Rp50 million," he explained.

As of Tuesday, 55 family members of 22 passengers of the Sriwijaya Air flight SJ-182 have arrived in Jakarta.

The family members are staying at a hotel in order to keep abreast of official efforts to haul human remains and debris from the site of the crash and to locate and retrieve the plane's black boxes.

The family members are scheduled to meet with officials of the National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT), Sampetoding said.

The Sriwijaya Air-Pontianak Office is scheduled to fly 13 more family members of passengers who were on the ill-fated flight.

"If no hurdles are encountered, we are flying 13 other family members from Pontianak City to Jakarta on Wednesday," Sriwijaya Air-Pontianak Office's district manager, Faisal Rahman, stated on Tuesday.
