Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian government congratulated Joseph (Joe) Robinette Biden Jr. following his inauguration as the 46th president of the United States (US) on Wednesday (Jan 20).
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) took to his Twitter and Instagram accounts to convey the congratulatory message on the inauguration day of President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“President Jokowi delivered a congratulatory tweet on the inauguration and invited the two countries to continue a strategic partnership, not only for the interests of the two countries but also for a better world,” Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi stated during a media briefing here on Thursday. Marsudi emphasized that the US is one of the most vital strategic partners for Indonesia. Both nations also shared common values, such as democracy, pluralism, tolerance, human rights, and the rule of law, she stated.
“I am certain that in future, Indonesia and the US can establish stronger partnership, a partnership that is equal, with mutual respect, and is mutually beneficial,” the minister remarked.
Akin to other countries in the world, Indonesia pins high hopes on the new US government, under the leadership of Biden-Harris, Marsudi stated.
The people are harboring greater hopes, as the world is facing challenges thrown by the pandemic in the midst of efforts to bring about economic recovery as well as world peace and stability amid deep rivalries among major countries.
Currently, a stronger spirit of collaboration and global leadership are deemed necessary to create a better world. The world also needs strong and fair multilateralism, she emphasized.
“To this end, the US commitment and contribution are direly needed,” the Indonesian foreign minister stated.
