Jakarta (ANTARA) – Presidential spokesperson Fadjroel Rachman affirmed that the second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are not only being rolled out at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta but also throughout the country.
“The first and second (doses) of the vaccine have also been rolled out in Indonesia followed by the regional heads, local heads, as well as religious and public figures in the area,” Rachman noted in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday.
The spokesperson remarked that the roll-out was conducted alongside the commencement of inoculations for 1.4 million health workers nationwide since they are at the vanguard of the fight against the global pandemic.
On Wednesday, President Joko Widodo had received his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. Several religious and public figures also received their shot of the second doses at the palace alongside the president. Rachman noted that President Widodo had seized the opportunity to yet again make assurance and instill a sense of confidence among the Indonesian public that the COVID-19 vaccine is halal and pure in accordance with the Indonesian Ulema Council’s fatwa. It is also safe and effective in line with international standards, as the Food and Drug Safety Agency (BPOM) had issued its emergency use authorization for the vaccine.
“Once again, the president ensured that the COVID-19 vaccine for around 181.5 million people is being given free of charge,” he affirmed.
Following his second shot, the head of state also reminded the people to not become lax in following health protocols despite having received the vaccines.
“Do not forget to maintain discipline in implementing health protocols. Wear your masks, maintain distance, and wash your hands. These are the key,” he stated.
