Hartarto outlines scope of restrictions under micro PPKM

Jakarta Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, explained the scope of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) using a micro-based approach, or at the local level, which will take effect from 9 February, 2021.

The restrictions will remain in place until 22 February, 2021.

“The imposition of restrictions on community activities will include restrictions on offices or workplaces, with strict enforcement of health protocols,” he said at an online press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

The number of workers allowed at offices or workplaces will be limited to 50 percent of the total capacity, and the remaining 50 percent workers will be required to work from home (WFH), Minister Hartarto informed.

Teaching and learning activities will remain online, while essential sectors related to community needs will be allowed to operate at 100 percent capacity, with arrangements regarding capacity and operationalization as per health protocols, he said.

Restaurants offering dine-in services will have to limit capacity to 50 percent, while the operating hours of malls and shopping centers will be curtailed to 9 p.m. Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

“Orders can still be given for takeaway or delivery,” Hartarto said.

Construction activities will be allowed at 100 percent capacity and places of worship will function at a maximum capacity of 50 percent on the condition that they apply strict health protocols, he added.

Public facilities and socio-cultural activities will be temporarily suspended, while arrangements for public transportation will remain limited to their capacity and operational hours, he continued.

The scope of these provisions will extend to districts, cities, villages, and sub-districts.

Hartarto emphasized that the restrictions are intended to reduce positive cases and tame the COVID-19 curve as a precondition for the successful handling of the pandemic and national economic recovery.

“Of course, there needs to be a more micro approach, in accordance with the direction of the President, namely up to the village or sub-district level,” he added.
