Jakarta Metropolitan Police redirect traffic in Jakarta amid flooding

 

Jakarta The Jakarta Metropolitan Police rerouted traffic to prevent impassable roads owing to flooding in several parts of the capital on Friday.

Traffic on the road in the tunnel below the Cawang Toll Road, heading to Tanjung Priok, where floodwaters reached a depth of between 60 cm and 70 cm at 5:54 a.m. local time, was diverted to the Semanggi toll road, according to the official Instagram account @TMC Polda Metro Jaya.

The police also rerouted traffic on Suprapto Street in East Jakarta where floodwaters reached a depth of 50 cm to 60 cm.

The Kemang Utara 9 Street in South Jakarta was also flooded, with floodwaters reaching a depth of 50 cm at 6:42 a.m. local time, thereby forcing the police to divert traffic to other roads.

The police also reported floodwaters, reaching 40-50 cm deep, inundated DI Panjaitan in front of the Defense Ministry building in East Jakarta at 7:30 a.m. local time and instructed drivers of vehicles, including sedans, to not ply on the road.

Floods also inundated Kalimalang Street before the Borobudur campus heading to the DI Panjaitan Street in East Jakarta, with floodwaters reaching a depth of 30 cm, at 7:12 a.m. local time. The police called on motorists to exercise caution while travelling on the road.

Meanwhile, 100-centimeter-deep floodwaters submerged the tunnel heading to the Kalimalang toll exit gate.
