Pupuk Indonesia cooperates with police on fertilizer distribution

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run fertilizer holding company PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) has explored cooperation with the Indonesian Police's Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) to oversee the distribution of subsidized fertilizers.

President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) Bakir Pasaman noted in a statement here on Friday that subsidized fertilizer falls under the category of goods under supervision, so any embezzlement in its distribution is considered as a crime.

"Hence, we explore cooperation with the Indonesian Police's Bareskrim to help us in monitoring the distribution of subsidized fertilizers to regions and take stern measures against those behind the embezzlement, as it would be disadvantageous to farmers as well as hinder national food resilience," Pasaman explained.

The president director highlighted the company’s firm commitment to supporting national food resilience, particularly in the supply of subsidized fertilizers in accordance with the government's allocation.

"Subsidized fertilizer is one key element in agriculture and national food resilience. Hence, its distribution must be guarded tightly," he emphasized.

In addition to the police, the company has worked in coordination with local authorities, including the Agriculture Office, Field Instructor Officials (PPL), the Commission of Fertilizer and Pesticide Monitoring (KP3), farmers group, and the Indonesian Military.

"Not only the state apparatus, but the public can also participate in the monitoring of subsidized fertilizers to regions," he stated.

According to Head of the Police's Criminal Investigation Unit Comm. Gen. Pol Agus Andrianto, cooperation for the distribution of subsidized fertilizers is expected to prevent any form of embezzlement.

Andrianto is optimistic that the company would map out locations to be prioritized in the distribution of subsidized fertilizers.

"Hence, Indonesia is expected to become a strong country in the food industry," he affirmed.
