Fire erupting in Indonesia’s Balongan oil refinery injures 21

A major fire that broke out at the Balongan oil refinery, Indramyau, West Java, inflicted injuries to 21 people, the Indramayu Health Office Head Deden Bonni Koswara stated.

Five people suffered serious injuries, two people sustained moderate injuries, and 14 individuals suffered light injuries, Koswara noted here on Monday.

“We have treated two of the victims at the Indramayu Regional Hospital,” he remarked.

“The five victims, who are seriously injured, were referred to the Gunung Jati Cirebon Regional Hospital,” he noted.

They suffered burns of over 50 percent on their bodies that necessitated hospital treatment with better medical facilities.

On early Monday (Mar 29), an oil tank at the Balongan refinery’s RU VI caught fire and caused a loud explosion.

The massive fire also compelled over one thousand residents around the fire site to evacuate to safer places.
