South Jakarta police are probing a case of theft involving a Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) employee, who was dismissed after allegedly stealing a gold bar weighing 1.9 kg.
“The case is still under investigation,” chief of the South Jakarta Police Precinct’s Criminal Investigation Division, Sen.Coms.Jimmy Christian Samma, informed on Thursday.
Investigators have yet to name the dismissed KPK employee, identified by his initials as IGAS, a suspect in the theft case, he said.
Head of the anti-graft body’s supervisory council, Tumpak H Panggabean, said IGAS had been dismissed and the theft had been reported to South Jakarta police.
IGAS was a member of the KPK’s task force and had access to the agency’s storage room for physical evidence of corruption crimes, including the gold bar that IGAS allegedly stole.
Panggabean said IGAS stole the gold bar last year to auction it at a pawnshop. The money was then used for paying off personal debts, he added. (INE)
