Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Proud of Made in Indonesia Products movement (Gernas BBI) has led to 16 million micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) joining the digital ecosystem, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment has informed.
“We reached 16 million in September 2021. I am sure that we will achieve the target of 30 million digital MSMEs by 2023,” Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy at the ministry Odo R M Manuhutu stated at the virtual launch of the ‘Digital Transformation of Merah Putih MSMEs’ workshop here on Wednesday.
According to Manuhutu, President Joko Widodo launched Gernas BBI on May 14, 2020 so that MSMEs can continue to grow in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and thus, help strengthen the Indonesian economy.
During the pandemic, MSMEs need to innovate, transform, and accelerate their progress, he said.
“Some MSMEs have started to make transformations that are not only they conduct online selling, but they also become comprehensive in digital literacy as well as pay attention to product quality,” he expounded.
In addition to developing production capacity, MSMEs also need to focus on the quality of their products, he said.
Good quality MSME products will create a good impression of all made-in-Indonesia products among consumers, he explained.
Therefore, the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the Ministry of Cooperatives and MSMEs are providing their support by holding trainings for MSMEs, he said.
The supportive training includes virtual workshops, such as the ‘Digital Transformation of Merah Putih MSMEs’, organized by Bank Mandiri with IdEA, DOKU, and YOKKE he noted.
Manuhutu also expressed the hope that the training workshops would improve both the capacity and quality of MSME products across Indonesia.
“We, together with other ministries, the Association of State-Owned Banks (Himbara), and other stakeholders in the private sector, will create a way for Indonesian products to have better quality. When MSME products have better quality, the consumers will get a greater experience,” he remarked.
