2022 MotoGP Pre-Season Test categorized as a success: Minister

The 2022 MotoGP Pre-Season Test at the Mandalika Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara, is categorized as a success and has drawn the attention of the international automotive world as well as tourism and creative economy players.

Through a press statement on Tuesday, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno lauded President Joko Widodo, 2022 Mandalika MotoGP Field Commander Hadi Tjahjanto, and all parties involved in the preparations for this Pre-Season test.

“This event has managed to become the talk of the international community, and we have to be able to improve preparations for the event on March 18-20, 2022,” he affirmed.

However, several corrections are necessary to improve the circuit’s readiness once the race begins, including in welcoming 100 thousand tourists, MotoGP racers, and official teams.

The first area of concern is the limited number of immigration counters at Lombok Airport, with only four out six for serving international travelers that resulted in spiraling queues while welcoming MotoGP racers and official teams.

“This should be handled and evaluated in order to increase the number of counters during the D day and to facilitate arrivals of travelers,” Uno remarked.

The second issue pertains to education for all workers, so that they can follow the travel bubble procedure. According to the evaluation, information had yet to be disseminated to several workers.

The third point of contention is that several hotels for international travelers in Lombok had yet to be verified.

“Hence, a special team will verify and validate hotel owners, so that they could be directly connected with the COVID-19 Task Force as hotel quarantines,” the minister notified.

With regard to problems encountered at the circuit, the Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and Mandalika Grand Prix Association (MGPA) should take accurate and quick steps for preparations for the grand prix to be held on March 18-20.

These steps comprise routine sanitation and resurfacing and other technical preparations that involve technology and weather modification from related parties.

Moreover, local residents should be involved and training imparted to them.

“We already have three trainings for tourism residence facility management, creative economy stands management, and culinary,” Uno noted.

“In general, citizens, especially the ones in Central Lombok and West Nusa Tenggara, are very enthusiastic in supporting the next event,” he affirmed.
