The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) is offering all Indonesians aged 15–18 years a chance to participate in the ‘Minister for a Day’ program.

“This is done to commemorate International Children’s Day,”  Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Bintang Puspayoga said in a statement on Monday.

Two children, one male and one female, will be provided an opportunity to act as the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection in November, she informed.

The program is being offered as part of a joint campaign to fight against sexual violence, she said.

Through the program, selected participants will get a strategic opportunity to share their idea for protecting children from violence with policymakers.

The program is expected to inspire children to become pioneers by actively reporting any sexual violence they face, Puspayoga added.

It is also expected to turn them into an inspiration for their peers when it comes to child protection and sexual violence eradication.

“This is an opportunity for Indonesian children to take a strategic role for one day while also showing your leadership potential, specifically in protecting children from every type of sexual violence,” the minister remarked.

The ‘Minister for a Day’ program is a collaborative project between the ministry and Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) Foundation and is themed “Eradicating Violence against Children.”

Registrations for the program will be open from July 30 to August 13, 2022.

Information on the registration criteria, series of activities, as well as the schedule of the program will be made available through the ministry and Plan Indonesia’s social media accounts.

In her statement, Puspayoga said that the Sexual Crime Prevention Law (UU TPKS) is a form of government effort to protect and fulfill victims’ rights regarding handling, protection, and recovery.
