4 witnesses face KPK’s interrogation over Mimika church construction

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators conducted intense questioning of four witnesses in connection with corruption allegations over the construction of the Kingmi Mile 32 Church Building in Mimika District, Papua Province.

“The witnesses were summoned on Tuesday to obtain information on how the budget for the church construction was planned and how the project was executed,” the anti-graft body’s acting spokesperson, Ali Fikri, noted in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The witnesses, grilled by the anti-graft body’s investigators at the Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP)-Papua Provincial Office in Jayapura, comprise Marthen Tappi Malissa, Petrus Yumte, Dominggus J Macsurella, and Tri Hardini Pelitawati, he revealed.

Malissa is former head of the Mimika regional secretary’s finance office; Yumte is ex-head of the Mimika district administration’s supporting unit for financial affairs (BPKAD); Macsurella is former head of procurement and service committee for the Kingmi church construction project; and Pelitawati is head of PT Arina Adicipta Konsultan’s branch office.

Fikri confirmed that two other witnesses — Hendra Kamesywara, former head of the Mimika regional secretary office for the 2014-2015 period, and Philipus Dholame, a priest — who did not appear when summoned by the KPK investigators on Tuesday will be re-summoned in the near future.

Indonesia’s KPK has been investigating corruption allegations over the Kingmi Mile 32 Church construction project for the first phase of the 2015 budget.

The KPK investigators are currently accruing the required evidence in connection with the alleged graft case of the church construction project by grilling several witnesses.

The KPK will uphold its principles of transparency and accountability in handling this case as mandated by the country’s anti-graft law.

To this end, the KPK investigators will later make a public announcement after the suspects are arrested, Fikri affirmed.
