520 Kilograms of Crystal Methamphetamine Seized En Route to Narathiwat Post Office

Pathum Thani: A truck driver hired to deliver goods to the Tanyong Mas Post Office in Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province, discovered 520 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine hidden inside a freezer. The driver became suspicious of his employer’s behavior, particularly noting their formal attire and use of gloves, and reported the situation to the police.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Yuthana Jonkhun, Commander of Pathum Thani Provincial Police, along with officers from Lam Luk Ka Police Station, intercepted the illicit shipment at a rented warehouse on Khlong 5 Road in Lam Luk Ka District. The contraband, concealed within freezers, was intended for delivery by a 6-wheel truck.

The driver had been contracted through a Facebook page to transport the items from the warehouse to the post office in Narathiwat Province for a fee of 38,000 baht. The supposed cargo was described as a refrigerator, but the lack of a clear delivery note and the unusual pickup timing of 4 am raised further doubts for the driver.

On the scheduled pickup, two men, masked and gloved, instructed the driver to reverse the truck into the warehouse. Payment was made in cash, contrary to standard practices that involve electronic transfers for record-keeping. Though the loading required additional help, the employers avoided direct contact with the boxes, instead using mobile phones to maneuver them.

Upon loading, the driver was instructed to cover the goods inside the warehouse rather than outside as usual, prompting him to alert the police when his messages to the employer went largely unread. Police inspection of the freezers revealed a tightly sealed interior with a GPS device and 200 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. A subsequent search of the warehouse uncovered another 320 kilograms, bringing the total to 520 kilograms with an estimated street value of 104 million baht.
