-Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong asked provincial-level Steering Committees on Prevention and Control of Corruption and Negative Phenomena to take drastic actions in combating corruption in their locality without relying on higher-level agencies, while addressing a conference in Hanoi on June 19.

The conference, held by the Central Steering Committee on Prevention and Control of Corruption and Negative Phenomena, reviewed the one-year operation of the provincial-level committees.Read full text

-A conference discussing solutions to facilitate businesses’ access to credit and promote capital absorption of the economy took place on June 19 in Hanoi.

Chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai, the event saw the participation of representatives from the State Bank of Vietnam, ministries, sectors, 10 commercial banks, and five trade associations.Read full text

-The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) is cutting down a series of key interest rates by 0.25%-0.5% from June 19, which is expected to make a double impact on the economy thanks to stronger credit activities and higher liquidity.

According to experts, the four major reasons behind the SBV’s decision are Fed’s ending of interest rate hike after 10 consecutive increases, a downturn trend of inflation since February, the stable domestic currency demand and stronger liquidity of the banking system, and a drop in exports and investment in industrial production in May.Read full text

-Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Council of Central Highlands Lam Dong province Dong Tran Duc Quan led a delegation to pay working trip to Venezuela from June 14-17 to promote diplomatic ties and cooperation with the South American country.

The Vietnamese delegation had meetings with Jesus Farias, Member of the Venezuelan Constituent Assembly and Vice President in charge of economic affairs of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Jesus Farias; and Venezuelan Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tatiana Puigh.Read full text

-The Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria on June 18 held a trading conference in a hybrid format, with the aim of boost trade cooperation between the two countries.

The event attracted the participation of 13 Vietnamese businesses and 25 Algerian firms operating in the import and export of agricultural products, food, industrial products, fishing tools, and cosmetics.Read full text

-Ho Chi Minh City is facing challenges to realise its yearly growth target of 7.5%, as the rates recorded in the first and second quarters failed to meet expectations.

-Establishing geoparks and developing geotourism are the most effective measures to protect and preserve geological heritage, said an insider.

According to Dang Tran Nhu Thuy from the Vietnam Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources under the Ministry of Natural Resources an Environment (MoNRE), geotourism is an eco-tourism type that can be developed areas with important geological features and values, such as inactive or active craters, river canyons, waterfalls, or paleontological remains and fossils.Read full text

-Hanoi has been ranked first in the list of the top 20 trending cities for solo travel while Ho Chi Minh City ranked sixth, according to a report by UK-based adventure travel company Explore Worldwide.

By analysing Google search data from the last two years, the company has determined the places that are seeing the biggest uplift in solo travel online searches.Read full text/.
