Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) has reminded political parties contesting the 2024 General Elections to abstain from campaigning while performing good deeds during the holy month of Ramadhan."What the Bawaslu prohibits is mixing good deeds with hidden campaigns," Bawaslu member Lolly Suhenty said during a talk show between the agency and the political parties here on Saturday. However, she stressed that the agency has not prohibited parties from actually doing good deeds during the Islamic holy month. "The agency does not prohibit people to give charity. The agency does not prohibit people from donating," she explained. What the agency has prohibited, however, is in accordance with Law Number 7 of 2017 on General Election. "For example, promising to give money or other material things, whether it is during the campaign period, counting vote period, or in election silence," she said. This is because currently, the general election proceedings are in the phase of political party announcement, wherein people are being provided details of the number of political parties in the fray, she explained. The campaign period itself will start on November 28 this year, she said. "(Informing people) so they are no strangers to the party. People will be aware of the party's number. Well, only to that extent," she elaborated. During the socialization period, a party is either prohibitedto promote itselfor give out any kind of materials meant for the campaign period, she said. "There should be no elements such as (disclosures of) vision and mission, program, image, alright. Those are considered as campaign, and it will end up as campaign outside the schedule. So, be careful on that matter," she added. She also said that other violations of campaign regulations would include parties campaigning at educational institutions, government offices, and worship places.
