BEN TRE: A ceremony marking the official commencement of fresh coconut exports from Ben Tre province in the Mekong Delta to China was held by the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Vietnam Mini Digital Investment and Trading JSC. The event highlights a significant step towards tapping into China’s vast market potential.
According to Vietnam News Agency, China, with a population exceeding 1.4 billion, relies on domestic production to meet only about 10% of its coconut demand. This shortfall presents a lucrative opportunity for Vietnam, where tapping into the Chinese market could potentially boost coconut export revenues by an additional $200-300 million as early as 2024. The move is expected to significantly contribute towards Vietnam’s aim of reaching $1 billion in coconut export earnings in the near future.
