Channel Don Aow Encounters Eight More PMN-2 Buoys, Army Asserts Ongoing Cambodian Agreement Violation

Sisaket: The Royal Thai Army has reported the discovery of eight additional PMN-2 buoys in the Chong Don Ao area of Sisaket Province, asserting that Cambodia continues to breach the ceasefire agreement. The Army emphasized that Cambodia should take responsibility and collaborate sincerely in resolving this issue.

According to Thai News Agency, Army spokesman Major General Winthai Suvari announced at the Royal Thai Army Headquarters that a report was received from the Second Army Area. Personnel from the 132nd Infantry Company, Chanaseuk Operations Base, and the National Mine Action Center (TMAC) conducted a mine clearance operation in the Chong Don Ao area at Chanaseuk Operations Base, Kantharalak District, Sisaket Province. On September 16, 2015, they discovered eight new PMN-2 anti-personnel mines, which were installed and ready to deploy. The unit successfully dismantled and stored them for destruction.

The discovery corroborates the assertion that Cambodia is persistently using weapons against Thai forces, clearly violating the ceasefire agreement and contravening the commitments made during the GBC meeting on August 10, 2015, regarding cooperation in demining operations.

The Royal Thai Army plans to compile all evidence found in the area and submit it to relevant agencies for further complaints on various international platforms. Cambodia is urged to accept responsibility and demonstrate sincerity in addressing the issue of landmines illegally placed in Thailand by Cambodian soldiers, aimed at harming Thai military personnel. Immediate resolution of this urgent matter is essential to restore the border area’s safety for both countries’ people.
