“Chusak” expects to look at legal issues, insists PM is not at risk

“Chusak”, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, revealed that he has not discussed assigning work yet. He expects to look at legal issues. He insists that the Prime Minister has nothing that poses ethical risks. He has prepared to resolve all legal issues.

Mr. Chusak Sirinil, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, gave an interview to the media that at this time he has not been assigned to oversee any agency and the Prime Minister should assign him to oversee the legal matters that will be brought to the Cabinet and Parliament meetings. As for whether he will oversee the National Office of Buddhism or not, at this time no assignment has been made.

Mr. Chusak continued that the important work is to push for the drafting of a new constitution and several organic laws, including important government policies that it wants to present, such as the soft power law.

When asked whether the amendment of the constitution will provide a clearer framework for ethical standards, Mr. Chusak said t
hat our principle is for the Constitution Drafting Assembly (CDA) to act. It is not yet time to talk about any amendments. As for the council’s right to propose any amendments, it is its right to do so.

‘As for ethical standards, I have said that the problem is the lack of clarity and the problem of interpretation, which is a problem of writing the constitution. And what I am worried about is that if it is interpreted widely, it may make it impossible to govern the country. For example, someone who was ticketed 20 years ago and was charged with violating traffic laws, will it be an ethical violation or not? It is difficult to measure. I think that we have to make this a standard. There is no need to interpret it too much. It all depends on the writing of the law. In the future, let them discuss the amendment of the wording. If there is a Constituent Assembly, we have to let them think about it,’ said Mr. Chusak.

Mr. Chusak also mentioned the history of the new cabinet regarding ethical risks, saying that ev
erything has passed and there should be no problem. As for the concern about Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Prime Minister who is being investigated in many cases, the Prime Minister is very careful about this matter because he is aware of the problems of Thai society. There is a working team preparing all of these matters in order to be ready so that there are no violations of ethical standards and the law. In addition, the Prime Minister has seen the experience in the past where there have been complaints back and forth.

Mr. Chusak said that there was nothing that the Prime Minister was at risk of ethics because he had been granted royal approval to be the Prime Minister. As for the legal issues that were filed later, he had already prepared to amend them all, such as what to do about the shares because there were already standards and decisions from the Constitutional Court. As for the issue of influence, it was clear that it was not because he was only giving advice. It was a freedom that could be exer
cised. I would like to confirm that in my capacity as an executive committee of the Pheu Thai Party, I saw that there was no influence and I would not allow anyone to order me around.

The reporter asked whether if Mr. Chusak came to oversee the legal matters, it would be the end of the legend of Mr. Wisanu Krea-ngam, the former advisor to the Prime Minister who was responsible for overseeing legal matters. Mr. Chusak said he did not know.
