Bangkok: The Anti-Corruption Division police successfully orchestrated a sting operation to apprehend a civil engineer accused of extorting 400,000 baht in building permit fees. The engineer, employed at the Civil Engineering Division of the Phra Khanong District Office, was taken into custody following a complaint from a victim.

According to Thai News Agency, the Anti-Corruption Division (ACD) police, in collaboration with officers from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), executed the arrest after the victim reported the demand. The civil engineer allegedly sought 400,000 baht in total, requesting 200,000 baht initially with an additional 20,000 baht to be paid later.

The arrest was made during a pre-arranged meeting where the engineer had asked the victim to deliver 200,000 baht in cash at the Civil Engineering Division’s desk in the Phra Khanong District Office. Law enforcement officers coordinated the operation, leading to the engineer’s arrest and the seizure of the cash as evidence.
