Bangkok: Civil society representatives have called upon the public to intensify their scrutiny of the Anutin government, highlighting concerns over potential misuse of power in ongoing corruption cases. The representatives, opposing corruption across four regions, emphasized the importance of preventing any attempts to whitewash or interfere in the Senate collusion case and the Khao Kradong case.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phanthil Nuamchim, a Bangkok MP from the Prachachon Party, together with Mr. Anupap Likhit-Amnuaychai, a Samut Songkhram MP from the same party, received a letter from the People’s Group Against Corruption in 4 Regions. This initiative, led by Mr. Pradit Pramchinda, seeks to maintain pressure on the Khao Kradong case and the alleged collusion within the Senate.
Mr. Pradit articulated the group’s concerns, pointing out the current political instability in Thailand, which has been exacerbated by recent developments. The Prachachon Party’s support for the minority Bhumjaithai Party in forming the government has raised questions about the party’s role, especially as it remains in opposition. Additionally, the Movement of Assistance (MoA) agreement is believed to contravene the constitutional requirement for a majority party to lead the government, raising suspicions of hidden influences in the government’s formation. The group demands accountability from the Prachachon Party, particularly if Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is found to be using his position to influence the Senate collusion and Khao Kradong cases.
The public and opposition parties are urged to closely investigate these matters, ensuring accountability and adherence to ethical standards within the government, especially during the no-confidence debate.
