Constitutional Court Rejects Anutin’s Petition to Use Highway as Runway

Bangkok: The Constitutional Court has rejected a petition from Anutin Charnvirakul, the Minister of the Interior, seeking to use a highway as a runway. The court’s decision marks a significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the controversial request.

According to Thai News Agency, the petition was brought forward by Mr. Niyom Nopparat, who asked the court to rule on the issue under Section 213 of the Constitution. The petitioner referenced a report published by MGR Online on June 15, 2025, alleging that Mr. Anutin, in his capacity as Minister of the Interior, sought permission to convert a public road into an aircraft runway for a private company’s business activities. This request was said to violate ethical standards and contravene Sections 160 (4)(5), 213, 219, and 235 of the Constitution. Consequently, the petitioner sought the termination of Anutin’s membership in the House of Representatives and his ministerial status, along with the revocation of his right to stand for election.

The Constitutional Court, upon reviewing the case, concluded that the petition and its supporting documents failed to demonstrate that the petitioner had initially filed a petition with the Ombudsman, as required by the Organic Act on Constitutional Court Procedures B.E. 2561, Section 46, paragraph one. This failure to comply with the necessary criteria, procedures, and conditions under Section 213 of the Constitution led the court to determine that the petition could not be upheld. As a result, the Constitutional Court unanimously decided to reject the petition for consideration.
