The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry has said that cultural parks can support the development of individual creativity and innovation as well as cultural arts communities in Indonesia.
“Cultural parks are very important. They are an expression and discussion space for artists so that Indonesian culture becomes very rich, as it is based from the bottom, where local art lives,” the ministry’s director of film, music, and media Ahmad Mahendra said at the 2022 Media Arts Community Festival (FKSM) here on Thursday.
According to him, one of the efforts that cultural park managements can make to help communities is holding cultural arts festivals.
Mahendra said he wants cultural parks across Indonesia to keep organizing art festivals that can spotlight the diversity of the local culture and involve local communities to create and innovate more.
Local governments must develop cultural parks as a place for artists to gather, express, and create to produce cultural arts because cultural parks also have a role in preserving them, he explained.
Arts festivals can be a platform and forum to increase society’s role in introducing and developing local arts to make them more attractive and become high-value works, he said.
“We want them to grow from these cultural parks, like this (the 2022 Media Arts Community Festival),” he added.
The organization of the arts festival is inseparable from the support of cultural parks and local governments, he said.
Mahendra further said he expects that cooperation among the ministry, local governments, related agencies, cultural parks, cultural arts actors, and local communities can advance culture in various regions of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Film, Music, and Media is also encouraging the holding of the Nusantara Traditional Music Festival to develop the country’s traditional music; Indonesian film festival; creation, recording, and performance of children’s songs; and the local narrative-based film screenwriting program (Indonesiana TV).
