DSI Awaits Transfer of ‘The Icon’ Case as Police Expedite Preparations

Bangkok: The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is prepared to assume responsibility for the high-profile ‘The Icon’ case, pending the transfer of the case from police authorities. Coordination efforts are currently underway to facilitate this transition.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Woranan Srilam, the Director of the Non-system Financial Business Cases Division and spokesperson for the DSI, outlined the procedural steps for accepting the ICON case as a special investigation. The decision to elevate the case was made during a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Phumtham Vejjayachai, reflecting a consensus between police and DSI officials. The government’s decision to reclassify the case as special stemmed from the significant number of victims and the extent of damages involved.

The process for transferring the case to the DSI involves either direct acceptance by the Director-General, if within his authority, or proposal to the Special Case Board for consideration. As of
today, police are finalizing internal processes and preparing necessary documentation summarizing evidence, which are crucial for the DSI’s acceptance of the case. Should the case require presentation to the Special Case Committee, the DSI plans to expedite its submission to the Special Case Board for swift approval.

Regarding additional arrest warrants, Pol. Lt. Col. Woranan emphasized the need to first complete the special case transfer process. This involves employing integrated investigation laws and potentially involving expert investigators. Once the DSI receives the case from the police, further details will be disclosed to the public.
