Electric peak load hits new highest record in Jamali: PLN

economic recovery has started to be felt

Jakarta State-run electric company PT PLN (Persero) recorded that the electricity peak load during the day in the Java Madura Bali (Jamali) system reached a new highest record of 28,693 megawatts.

In his statement on Saturday, PLN Corporate Communication and CSR Executive Vice President Agung Murdifi noted that this record signals that the people, industry, and economic activities have started to increase.

Meanwhile, the highest peak load during the night reached 27,936 megawatts recorded on March 30, 2022.

In addition to Jamali, PLN recorded a surge in peak load in the Southern Sulawesi (Sulbagsel) system, with the highest record reaching 1,625 megawatts.

This peak load had risen as compared to 1,617 megawatts in the last year.

“Economic recovery has started to be felt. This can be seen from the electric peak load in several regions that had started to increase,” Murdifi informed.

Moreover, he explained that during the first quarter of this year, the realization of electricity sales was recorded to reach 65.42 terawatt-hour (TWh).

Specifically, in the industry sector, electricity consumption had reached 21,953 gigawatt-hour (GWh), or rose by 16 percent as compared to the first quarter of last year.

“The rise in electricity sales is a sign that the economy has recovered. The people’s activity has recovered that encourages electricity consumption, primarily in industry and retail,” he noted.

This achievement is inseparable from the creating demand strategy undertaken through intensification and extensification efforts, he stated.

Intensification strategy is implemented by PLN through various bundling and promo to improve the customers’ comfort. One of them is a series of additional power promo programs throughout the year that the customers warmly welcome.

Intensification strategy is also applied through implementation of a lifestyle that utilizes electric-based appliances in our daily lives, or electrifying lifestyle.

For instance, this lifestyle involves encouraging the use of induction stoves and battery-based electric vehicles.

Moreover, the extensification strategy is conducted through the win back program, with captive power acquisition.

This means that PLN replaces the electricity of companies that still utilize its own power plant with electric supply from PLN, so that the companies can focus on their core businesses.

In addition, PLN continues to search for a potential market niche in various sectors, such as through electrifying the agriculture and marine sectors.
