Government Spokesman Encourages Spending on “Half-Half Plus” Project

Bangkok: Government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat is urging citizens to take advantage of the “Half-Half Plus” project, which runs from October 29 to December 31, 2025, between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM. The Ministry of Finance is still welcoming applications from businesses interested in participating in the initiative until December 19.

According to Thai News Agency, Siripong, representing the Prime Minister’s Office, has invited members of the “Half-Half Plus” program to utilize their spending limit through the “Paotang” application. The limit remains valid until the end of December 2025, and eligible participants must make their first purchase by November 11, 2025, to retain their program benefits.

The spokesperson highlighted that out of 20 million eligible participants, 7.93 million who filed taxes received a 2,400 baht subsidy, whereas 12.07 million non-tax filers received 2,000 baht. Among the 20.19 million registered, 194,210 were disqualified due to various reasons such as holding state welfare cards, death, previous violations, or involvement with mule accounts.

Currently, over 620,000 stores have joined the project. The Ministry of Finance has assured participants that sales data will not be shared with the Revenue Department, and businesses can continue to apply for participation until December 19, 2025.

The Thai Retailers Association has observed positive economic stimuli, particularly during the festive season in the fourth quarter, anticipating a substantial increase in retail sales. This sentiment is echoed by Kasikorn Research Center, which predicts that the “Half-Half Plus” initiative will boost retail cash flow by 60-70 billion baht, thereby enhancing spending in the final quarter of the year.

Siripong further explained that the government will subsidize 50% of each participant’s expenses, with the remaining 50% being covered for eligible individuals. Unused benefits will roll over daily. The program now encompasses public transportation systems, including BTS and MRT, aiming to reduce living costs, boost income for transportation workers, and stimulate travel nationwide later this year.
